View from the southeastern portion of the cemetery looking generally northwest. No relative's grave sites were found and there was no office to provide assistance. The grounds are in dismal condition with vandalism rampant, markers pushed to the ground, graves sunken as if they had been jumped upon and entire sections on the upper levels overgrown with vegetation.

The facility was also known as "Odd Fellows Widows and Orphans Home."
The Texas Historical Commission placed a marker at the site in 1977. It reads: "In 1885 the Grand Lodge of Texas, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, founded the I. O. O. F. Widows and Orphans Home, one of the first fraternal orphanages in the state. Corsicana Lodge No. 63 and other local citizens gave 200 acres as a site for the facility. On April 26, 1886, the cornerstone for the first permanent building was laid. Only one child was residing here in 1891, but enrollment and financial support soon increased. The home became a self-contained community with its own independent school district, farm and dairy, power plant, and water supply. Abel Rice Auditorium, built in 1911 when enrollment was over 300, contained a swimming pool and gym, and housed the fine arts department sponsored by the Rebekah lodges. This institution also served as a home for the aged from 1905 until a separate facility opened in Ennis in 1928. After peaking at nearly 400 in the 1920s, enrollment dropped sharply in the 1930s and 1940s. The school closed in 1943, and students began attending Corsicana public schools. Campus buildings were modernized in a 1945 "reconversion program." Renamed in 1948, the Odd Fellow and Rebekah Children's Home has provided care for over 5500 persons."

Ebbitt, George F Jr: 1954 USNA
George graduated from the USNA with the Class of 1954 and was one of 64 who were commissioned in the Marine Corps. He went on to fly the H34, HH53 and the HMK-463 helicopters. In 1960 he became a presidential helicopter pilot and flew for both President Eisenhower and Kennedy. In 1964 he was a pilot on the Operation Shu-Fly, flying out of Danang, South Vietnam. He retired in May 1974 as a Lieutenant Colonel and sought employment as a commercial pilot. On October 8, 1974, he was shot and killed by a disgruntled, out-of-work plumber while sitting at a local bar reading the Naval Institute Proceedings and regaling the locals of flight operations in VN. George was buried in the Long Island National Cemetery, not far from where he grew up in Brooklyn.

Ewing, William H: 1908
This card and several others were in the same box at a flea market near Stephens City, VA - William's hometown. William Ewing's photo was identified on the back. If someone would like to purchase the originals, Phil Fravel would be happy to provide them at cost- $10.00. He hated to not purchase them as they were identified. Note: some of the others were taken in Winchester, 10 miles north of Stephens City, VA.
