Sorry I haven't gotten to send more lately. Been very sick.

Hearing about the new territory in the Northwest and with the desire to have a new start, the three families started again in their covered wagons. It was a hard and very slow, tiresome trek, which took six months. They stopped at Bickleton--near Goldendale Washington. Here they resided for 7 years.

At this point, George left his family in Bickleton and traveled up the Yakima River and over Blewett Pass going up the Icicle River and staying on the east side. George purchased ladn from the Northern Pacific Railroad and filed his homestead claim.

After George had found property in the Levenworth area, William Brisky and Dave Treadwell came to Cashmere, Washington in 1886. Mr. Treadwell stopped about three miles up the road, which is now Pioneer Avenue. A log cabin was built near a beautiful spring. This spring still supplies several homes with domestic water along Pioneer Avenue.

William went on up to what is know today as Brender Canyon. (Mr. Brender was the first settler in the canyon. With the help of four neighbors, they bilt their cabin, corrals, dug a cellar into the hillside. William acquired 160 acres from the Northern pacific Railway for $500.00.

Finding a good water source was of first importance. Here was a valley with a creek, plenty of trees for fuel and wild game in the forest and deep, black soil with wild timothy and grass growing. On the west side of the valley, a lovely spring gushed to the surface. At the toe of this mountain, near the spring, William built his first home.
Going back to Bickleton, all three families were brought over Colockum Pass arriving in Old Mission the latter part of October in 1997.

That first winter the snow was unusually deep. William, with the help of Joe Seipen and Ed Gonser, was falling trees above the cabin. The worning was January 25, 1883. Suddenly there was a loud roar. Looking up from their work they saw a large snow slide booming down the hill toward their cabin. The jar of the falling timbers had started the avalanche, which crossed the entire canyon, burying the cabin and occupants in its path.

If one knows where to look, evidence still remains on the side of the mountain where trees, rocks and debris was swept away. Seipen went for help.

As neighbors arrived, frantic digging was in process. They said that William was digging like a mad man. All five of the children were found safe. William's wife, Laura, however, was found late in the afternoon. She had smothered to death. A raveling minister, a Reverend Biggs, who was visiting the family was also dead.

There was no cemetery so Laura Treadwell Brisky and Reverend Biggs were buried on a piece of land set aside by her father, on a knoll behind the Treadwell home.
