    Link to Google MapsObituary - AGED CONFEDERATE VET DIES IN CITY Monroe Wheeler, 88, a Confederate veteran, died at 3:30 a.m. Saturday at his residence at 1610 Avenue J. after an illness of several months. Funeral services were held at the residence at 5 p.m. Saturday with Rev. J. O. Haymes, pastor of the First Methodist church, in charge. Rev. Walter P. Jennings, pastor of the First Christian church, assisted in the service. Burial was in a Lubbock cemetery under the direction of Bynum-Morgan funeral home. Pallbearers were George R Bean, J. C. Reynolds, Bert Lloyd, Paul Carlock, Herbert Carlock and J. M. Mullins. Mr. Wheeler had been a resident of Lubbock eight years, moving here with his wife from Ardmore, Okla. He had been retired from active business for many years. He served the entire four years of the Civil war with the Confederate forces. He had been a member of the methodist church since boyhood. He is survived by his widow, three daughters, Mrs. J. D. Peters of Lubbock, Mrs. J. H. Carlock of Ardmore, Okla., and Mrs. A. F. Jones of Phoenix, Ariz., and one son, O. F. Wheeler of Houston.
