Valentine Tier (1743 - 1825)

We seek information about Valentine Tier.

A fellow researcher advised me that Charlotte Smith was a descendant of the Jean (John) Daniel Tiers of NY whose "...parents all who came on the ship Patience out of Wurrentenberg, Germany. This family is found on the records of Kleinvillers, Germany and documented and they came from France as Huguenots and then to Philadelphia on the ship Patience. Some came in 1751 and some 1752 on the same ship. There is a web site for the Patience with its passengers. There is also a great book out on this family in France and its roots republished in English in the US not too long ago and still available for about 25.00 pp I am away from my home on vacation now and without my records but if interested I will give you all the information. I have lots on this Tiers family if interested contact me."

I replied to the researcher with the following: I recall that I was listed as a source of that data along with Charlotte Smith. I am on record as disagreeing with her [Charlotte] and the connection to the ship Patience and by logic I cannot assume Kleinvillers is correct. I believe, but as yet cannot prove, that there are two separate lines for Daniel. So, the Daniel referenced below may not match Charlotte's Daniel. My reference from circa 1886 states that Valentine Tier

"Emigrated from Alsace to U.S. 1755 ... lived in NY at one time... "His (Valentine's) brothers Daniel and Jacob came to America with him...His will, Oct 6th, 1825 signed by his X mark, gives the name Tearse or Tearce...At time of his death, was a resident of Pompton Township, Bergen Co., NJ - possibly near Newfoundland. The ellipses indicate that the phrases are not in paragraph format and should not be construed as deleted portions of the narrative.

In the hand drafted tree [which was prepared principally to reflect ancestors of Albert Henry Heusser, born March 11th, 1886 in Paterson, NY] is George, s/o Valentine. Listed as brothers of George are John and Peter. John is listed as from Newfoundland, NY.

I am from the line of Peter (born abt. 1802). There are as well two sisters listed: Elizabeth who married John Roberts (NFI) and Catharine who married Timothy Smith. Catharine & Timothy ultimately are located in Fostoria, OH. There are references to Valentine being born in late 1750s. Not at all true in my opinion. The same record above says 1743. I have seen reference to Valentine arriving with brothers and a cousin. I can neither find the cousin nor Valentine's European heritage. See my exchange with Charlotte on the Ancestry.com Tier board.
